A Statement from Head of Health for a Council borough, Peter Snart-Smith dated 28th May 2004:

“Asbestos is one of the most toxic materials when inhaled, and can cause lung cancer.

It is a common fallacy that only blue asbestos is dangerous – all forms of asbestos can kill if fibres are inhaled.

It is estimated that over two thirds of domestic properties currently have some form of asbestos in them.

This should only be removed by trained and qualified contractors.”

Introduction

There's a killer on the loose!
At least 3500 people in Great Britain die each year from mesothelioma and asbestos related lung cancer as a result of exposure to asbestos. Annual numbers of deaths are predicted to go on rising into the next decade.

Where can i find asbestos?
Asbestos was used extensively as a building material in GB from the 1950s through to the mid 1980s. Although some of this material has been removed over the years, there are many thousands of tonnes of asbestos still present in buildings.
